HM Submarine E10 left Harwich on 18th January, 1915 on a patrol off the coast of Heligoland. She was never seen nor heard of again and may have been a victim of a German minefield laid on 22nd December, 1914. There were no survivors from her crew of 3 officers and 28 ratings. The wreckage was discovered in 2003 and damage to the ballast tanks and her open hatches suggest a mine explosion whilst on the surface. The dates of death for the crew, including Trevor Whitaker, are recorded as 21st January, 1915, but the actual date is not known. |
